THE RETURN OF METAL GHOST - MALAYSIA'S BLACK DOOM METAL

METAL GHOST is Malaysia’s first proto-doom black metal band, founded in 1982. Driven by an ambition to become the most sinister and mystical act of that era, they began composing their own original works. As once declared by the late guitarist and vocalist Azmi Bahari, their music eventually “became a force and a prize to be fought over.” Metal Ghost was later reformed by original drummer Hadi after he was kicked out of Black Fire due to creative differences. The current lineup of Metal Ghost is: Hadi on drums, Core on guitar, and Witch Hunter on bass.

Yesterday, Hashim and I met with Metal Ghost, and it ended with a ritual session at Salvo Cafe. It’s been so long since I jammed with Hadi—far too long. In fact, the last time I played Black Fire songs was probably back in 2010 at One Cafe. My time with that band is a closed chapter. I barely touch music instruments these days. Music no longer holds any serious meaning for me. But if I were to play again, it would have to be filthy, rotten, noir, and dark. What I have left now are DEtBE and Wreckär, tucked away like skeletons in the closet.

Metal Ghost is currently reworking several old tracks to be recorded for the faithful who uphold the legacy of northern-styled old school metal. Hopefully, this news brings joy to you all.
